Board of Appeals

Overview

The Board of Appeals hears administrative and variance appeals from decisions made under Town of Benton ordinances that designate the Board to hear such appeals.

Title 30-A § 4353 authorizes the appeals board to hear and decide administrative appeals, interpretation appeals, and requests for variances filed in connection with decisions made under a zoning or shoreland zoning ordinance.

The Appeals Board conducts appeals in accordance with Maine statutes, Town ordinances, and Board procedures, keeping in mind the community goals of the Benton Comprehensive Plan.

The Board of Appeals is a five (5) member board appointed by the Select Board.
