Animal Control Officer
Overview
The Animal Control Officer is appointed annually by the Select Board and reports directly to the Select Board. The Animal Control Officer must meet the qualifications & training requirements of the Maine Department of Agriculture. The duties of the Animal Control Officer include responding to reports of domestic animals suspected of having rabies, investigation of animal cruelty & enforcement of animal welfare laws.
According to state law dogs are required to be licensed annually, on or before December 31. A late fee of $25.00 per dog will be applied after January 31. A current rabies vaccination certificate and spay/neutering certificate if applicable must be provided at time of licensing.
